About Operation Gratitude

Operation Gratitude annually sends 200,000+ care packages to Veterans, First Responders, New Recruits, Wounded Heroes, their Care Givers, and to individually named U.S. service members deployed overseas and their families waiting at home. Each package is filled with food, entertainment, hygiene and hand-made items, as well as personal letters of support. Our mission is to lift the spirits and meet the evolving needs of the Military and First Responder communities, and provide volunteer opportunities for civilians anywhere in America to express their appreciation to all who serve our nation. Each package contains donated product valued between $45 and $100 and costs our organization $15 to assemble and ship. Since its inception in 2003, Operation Gratitude volunteers have shipped more than 1.6 Million Care Packages.

Great post! It is so helpful having all of these links in one place! I support Cup of Joe and Snowball Express but am always interested in learning about new ways to help! (I always print off your “get involved” posts to send in to the middle school where my daughter works!)

My kids have been wanting to send care packages to our deployed military. I’ve let them know about Operation Gratitude and they are stocking up on goodies. My oldest saved her iTunes card she received for Christmas to give a soldier. And I think they want to send homemade fudge 🙂 Hopefully more people, especially children, will remember our deployed military, We need to fuel the fire of patriotism and support!
    Soldier on!

    • Thank you so very much for your support! Please pass along our thanks to your kids for us, too. We are very grateful….the only thing we cannot send is any homemade food, unfortunately….So maybe you could deliver the fudge to your local fire or police station for those heroes to enjoy? Thank you again!

So I just make hand knit items (scarves and hats), and fill out the Donor Form, and send them to the CA address? I would love to help!!! Thanks Missy for posting this to your blog! I was making rectangles for Handmade Afghan Project for the last six or so years, and now that they are done I’ve been looking for a new way to support our troops!

I have donated to Scarves for Troops/Operation Gratitude for the last 2 years. I currently have a scarf in progress to donate this year. I have set a personal goal of at least 12 handmade items to donate.

Please check them out as there are many different ways to donate and what better cause than the ones who protect and serve our great country.

Thanks for the good words.  It also helps the knitters and crocheters to get your good encouraging words.  (like a boss you really like giving you a compliment  when you weren’t expecting it…) Thank you, fl
