It’s a Craft Party in Support of the Troops!

Here’s a guest blog post from a longtime volunteer, tireless supporter and one of our Scarves for Troops Project coordinators, Lorene Van Ark-Miller:

A group of ladies meet at a friend’s home to support our troops. It’s like a party, meeting old friends and making new ones as we enjoy refreshments and good company.

A lot goes on – it’s definitely a WORK party to get things done to help fill the boxes that are sent by Operation Gratitude to our troops to put a smile on their faces and let them know that we are thinking about them here at home.

Things we do: knit/crochet scarves, write letters of thanks, make cards for them to send home, collect Beanie Babies, fold newspaper comics to send, sew cool-ties, and make paracord “Survival” bracelets. It’s FUN!

From Northridge, California, we crafty ladies have a friendly challenge to throw out to the rest of you: If we can do this, YOU CAN DO IT TOO!!!

THANK YOU, Lorene and friends! We hope many will take you up on your challenge, and be inspired to host a similar “work party” in support of the troops! Find information on various crafts here at our blog:

About Operation Gratitude

Operation Gratitude annually sends 200,000+ care packages to Veterans, First Responders, New Recruits, Wounded Heroes, their Care Givers, and to individually named U.S. service members deployed overseas and their families waiting at home. Each package is filled with food, entertainment, hygiene and hand-made items, as well as personal letters of support. Our mission is to lift the spirits and meet the evolving needs of the Military and First Responder communities, and provide volunteer opportunities for civilians anywhere in America to express their appreciation to all who serve our nation. Each package contains donated product valued between $45 and $100 and costs our organization $15 to assemble and ship. Since its inception in 2003, Operation Gratitude volunteers have shipped more than 1.6 Million Care Packages.
